In 1942 during World War II, intelligence officer Max Vatan meets and soon falls in love with French Resistance fighter Marianne Beausejour during a mission to kill a German official. However, Max's happiness is shattered when he must investigate to determine whether Marianne is really a double agent working for the Nazis.
