The Big Sleep

A 1946 film noir directed by Howard Hawks, The Big Sleep centers on detective Philip Marlowe, who is hired by a wealthy General Sternwood to stop a blackmail which disturbs his youngest daughter’s life. His mission unexpectedtly leads to a murder, which involving his client’s daughter Carmel.
